SEC Football Predictions: Week 4

SEC Football Predictions

Last week we went 8-3 on our predictions – South Carolina didn’t play – and were exactly correct on zero games. The misses were wins by Notre Dame (just), North Texas (wow), and LSU (impressive) against Vanderbilt (so close), Arkansas (just awful), and Auburn (disappointing) respectively. The closest game to a correct score prediction was Kentucky vs. Murray State where we missed by a grand total of six points between the two squads.

Here are some score predictions for Week 4 of the FBS season:

Saturday, September 22

(2) Georgia @ Missouri – The Missouri defense is about to get shredded by Jake Fromm and the Georgia attack. The Tigers have the offense to keep up for a half or so – Drew Lock will throw for over 300 yards – but is hard to look past the 572 yards Mizzou gave up through the air last week to a Purdue team that isn’t even any good. Georgia 45. Missouri 28. MORE: Georgia 3 Keys

Kent State @ Ole Miss – The Rebels need a rebound win after getting destroyed by Alabama last weekend. The Kent State defense is just the tonic for Jordan Ta’amu and his wide receivers to have a monster game. Ole Miss 52, Kent State 14.

(22) Texas A&M @ (1) Alabama – This Alabama team has shown zero cracks so far in 2018. Kellen Mond and his corps of wide receivers will move the ball, but could anyone reasonably pick against Alabama here? Alabama 42, Texas A&M 20. MORE: Alabama 3 keys, First Look: Bama vs. A&M

South Carolina @ Vanderbilt – The Gamecocks are rested after their game was hurricaned out last weekend. That is probably a good thing after what happened against Georgia. This Vanderbilt team is for real – only a -3 turnover differential stopped them from upsetting Notre Dame last Saturday – and they would love a big win against an SEC foe. Vanderbilt 28, South Carolina 24. MORE: Vandy 3 Keys, USC 3 Keys, Roanoke’s Notre Dame & USC thoughts, First Look: Vandy vs. USC

LA Tech @ (14) LSU – This isn’t the gimme game it appears. The Bulldogs can get to the quarterback and Joe Burrow has steered LSU to the second worst completion percentage in the nation at this point in the season. LSU will do enough, but only just. LSU 27, LA Tech 21. MORE: LSU 3 Keys

(14) Mississippi State @ Kentucky – Mississippi State is operating at a level that suggests they are ready to push Alabama and the rest of the SEC West heavyweights all the way to the wire. Kentucky is the second best team in the East, but they have turnover issues and can only win this if Benny Snell has a game for the ages. Mississippi State 40, Kentucky 21. MORE: MSU 3 Keys, Kentucky 3 Keys, First Look: MSU-UK

Florida @ Tennessee – This is probably the hardest game to pick this week. Florida was beaten up pretty badly by Kentucky, while West Virginia did the same to Tennessee. In close games like this one you look to the quarterback, with the Vols winning that battle as Jarrett Guarantano is completing at a 72-prcent rate compared to just 53-percent from Feleipe Franks. Tennessee 27, Florida 20. MORE: Tennessee 3 keys

Arkansas @ (9) Auburn – Arkansas can’t defend the pass and Jarrett Stidham is due for a breakout game in 2018 after being corralled by Washington and LSU. This will be ugly. Auburn 52, Arkansas 10. MORE: Arkansas 3 Keys, Auburn 3 Keys
