Obviously, Stephen F. Austin has yet to play a game. The Lumberjacks finished the 2017 season 4-7 with wins over Incarnate Word, Lamar, Houston Baptist and Abilene Christian. In the team’s only game with an FBS opponent the Lumberjacks fell to SMU 58-14.

Challenges for Mississippi State

The absence of starting quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, who has been suspended for the game, can only make this contest more interesting. Even without Fitzgerald, State should still win easily. The goal is to win this game and come out of the contest with as few injuries as possible. The Bulldogs also should use this game to develop depth if the contest transpires as expected. Junior QB Jake Blumrick led the Lumberjacks in passing last season completing 171 of 303 passes for 1,654 yards, and eight touchdowns. Tamrick Pace is the team’s top returning receiver with 53 catches last season.
