Texas A&M Football Three Keys: Ole Miss

Three Keys for Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies (3-4) host the Ole Miss Rebels (6-1) in College Station on Saturday. This is a game that the Aggies really need to win, given the noises coming out of the program this week.

Here are the three keys to an Aggie victory:

Does A&M Have Any Players

There is something weird going on in College Station. Jimbo Fisher announced earlier this week that three offensive linemen – including Aki Ogunbiyi and Bryce Foster – are all done for the season through injury. Since then, news has broken that the Aggies will also be down a good part of their highly-rated recruiting class on Saturday. At least three players – wide receiver Chris Marshall, corner Denver Harris, and offensive lineman PJ Williams – have been suspended. There are also signs that another freshman – running back LJ Johnson – will sit out and transfer. Just getting enough bodies on the roster is quickly becoming a problem.

Don’t Let The Rebels Race Ahead

This is a scary team for the Aggies to be facing based on the relative ability of the two schools to score points and score them in bunches Texas A&M is last in the league, scoring 22 points per game. The Rebels have an offense that rolls for close to 500 yards of offense and 38 points per game. The Aggies have to find a way to keep this close, as the only direction that this ends in a blowout is in the Rebels’ favor. Texas A&M isn’t built to score and play tempo like Ole Miss, so the offense has to be sure not to go three and out – or turn the ball over immediately – after an Ole Miss score for them to put up 14 points on the bounce.

Use The Energy

The Aggies haven’t played a home game in nearly a month and a half. September 17th was their last game in College Station, with road and neutral site contests being the way their schedule has gone since then. This is fine if you are a good, experienced squad, but the Aggies are young and learning how to play at this level. There is nothing like the swell of energy from a home crowd, so look for the players to get an extra bounce in their step on Saturday now that they get to play at Kyle Field again.
