Challenges for Missouri
Missouri’s going to contend with the best special teams units in the nation when it faces South Carolina. The Gamecocks have blocked an impressive five punts this season, that’s the most in the FBS. They rank first in the nation in kickoff returns gaining an average of 31.2 yards per return. USC is a healthy seventh nationally in punt returns gaining an average of 16.7 yards per return. Kickoff return defense is another strength of the Gamecocks. They allow just 14.7 yards per return. A 40.8-yard average (25th nationally) in net punting is another area of strength for the Gamecocks. Mizzou must put an extra emphasis on dealing with the outstanding Gamecock’s special teams this week.
