Wright's Renegade SEC Picks

Another week and another set of games with one wrong result. I knew Kentucky was going to do me dirty at some point. I just didn’t expect it to be against Ole Miss.

Week Results: 6-1

Closest Pick: SC State 10, South Carlina 49. The Actual was SC State 10, South Carolina 50. As close as you can get while still missing perfection.

Worst Pick: Kentucky 31, Ole Miss 21. The Actual was Kentucky 19, Ole Miss 22. I thought Chris Rodriguez would get the Kentucky running game going. He didn’t, and that Ole Miss rushing attack is legit.

Season Results: 47-8 (85.4%). Last week was 85.4%.

Auburn @ (2) Georgia – Auburn can’t pass the ball and has huge turnover issues. Auburn is a wall against the pass and now has the ignominy of falling out of the top spot without losing a game. This is a bad spot for the Tigers. Georgia 38, Auburn 14.

Texas A&M @ (1) Alabama – Jimbo Fisher would love to win this one. The problem is the Aggies have no offense to speak of and Alabama’s No.1 ranked rushing attack (7+ yards per carry) is about to run over a defense ranked nearly 100th nationally in rushing yards per game. No upset this year. Alabama 41, Texas A&M 20.

South Carolina @ (13) Kentucky – South Carolina put up 50 points last time out – yes, it was against SC State, but 50 points is 50 points – and Kentucky had its season rocked with a loss to Ole Miss. This is a dangerous game for the Wildcats with the potential of an emotional letdown, but I think they snap out of their funk around halftime here and do enough to win ugly. Kentucky 28, South Carolina 24.

(8) Tennessee @ LSU – The No. 8 Vols have been winning games behind the No. 1 offense in the country. Continuing to roll against an LSU defense that is the best they have faced this year will be tough, but Hendon Hooker is playing at a different level, and I like him to continue his form here. Tennessee 41, LSU 34.

(9) Ole Miss @ Vanderbilt – An improving Vandy team – coming off of a bye and feeling fresh – will do enough to scare an Ole Miss team in position for an emotional letdown after the Kentucky win. Even so, the tempo attack will get rolling in the second half, and the Rebels will have too much on the ground for the ‘Dores to keep up. Ole Miss 37, Vandy 21.

Mizzou @ Florida – Mizzou does a great job of being in the right place for a win and never coming through. That will happen again here as the Gators have to win this with a gauntlet of games coming up over the next few weeks. Florida 35, Mizzou 21.

Arkansas @ (23) Mississippi State – I don’t think that the Arkansas passing defense will be good enough against the efficiency of Will Rogers and the Bulldogs. This is a team that gave up over 300 yards passing in each of three wins to start the year, and Rogers is No. 3 in the nation in passing yards. I also worry about the health of KJ Jefferson here. MSU 31, Arkansas 21.
