Challenges for Alabama

Alabama’s Nick Saban and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher finally get a chance to settle things on the field after their reported summer spat. Texas A&M seems very average this season. When you look at the FBS national stats rankings you see why. Other than kickoff coverage, a stat in which they rank third nationally, and some other special teams stats, they don’t excel at much of anything. They are 116th in sacks made, 105th in total offense, 108th in scoring offense, 98th in rushing offense, 101st in passing offense, and 95th in third down conversion percentage. All of those are very critical statistical areas. A&M has some solid players. I really like running back Devon Achane. Achane is averaging over 93 yards rushing a game. He’s also fourth nationally in kickoff returns average of 34 yards a return. Wide receiver Ainias Smith is in the top 25 nationally in yards per reception (19.4). Texas A&M has some good players but the team as a whole isn’t performing up to its capabilities. Alabama can’t afford to take A&M lightly. When you consider they lost to A&M last season, it’s hard to see how they could overlook the Aggies but crazy things happen.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 7:00 PM CT (8:00 PM ET). Watch this SEC football game on the CBS Network.
