Wright’s Renegade SEC Football Picks

Wright's Renegade SEC Picks

I was the top of a post – seriously, has anyone ever seen that happen before? – away from a perfect week thanks to Arkansas and A&M. Frustrating.

Week Results: 9-1. Shouldn’t complain

Closest Pick: Mississippi State 45, Bowling Green 14. Actual was…….Mississippi State 45, Bowling Green 14!!! Perfection alert.

Worst Pick: Arkansas 29, Texas A&M 21. Seriously. The top of an upright from not missing anything. Then the worst pick would probably have defaulted to Georgia, who I thought would have been way too much for Kent State instead of simply too good.

Season Results: 41-7 (85.4%). Last week was 84.2%.

(7) Kentucky @ (14) Ole Miss – Getting Chris Rodriguez back is huge for Kentucky in a massive year. The Wildcats rolled to 4-0 on the back of quarterback Will Levis and with nothing even resembling a running game. Rodriguez will instantly improve the 2.4 yards per carry they have been working through. Ole Miss rumbles for 281 yards per game on the ground, but the Kentucky defense will do enough to slow that down. Kentucky 31, Ole Miss 21.

Eastern Washington @ Florida – Florida is close to working things out. Anthony Richardson needs to hit much more – 53% of passes just isn’t getting it done – and the running game needs a few more blocks on key plays to get it going. It happens this weekend. Florida 55, Eastern Washington 20.

SC State @ South Carolina – South Carolina will get the running game going again against an opponent that averages less than three yards per carry. Spencer Rattler will have to do nothing more than manage the offense here as running back MarShawn Lloyd has another big day. South Carolina 49, SC State 10.

(2) Alabama @ (20) Arkansas – Throwing against Arkansas hasn’t been too much of an issue for anyone except for Texas A&M – the Aggies can’t pass on anyone to be fair – and the Alabama passing game is showing signs of breaking out for good. This is going to take a massive game from KJ Jefferson – he did it last year against an Alabama secondary far better than this one – for the Hogs to stay close. I think he does, but I just can’t see them getting over the top. Alabama 41, Arkansas 35.

(17) Texas A&M @ Mississippi State – I still think the lack of offense from Texas A&M will trip them up again sooner rather than later. There is no downfield passing game – even less now that best wide receiver Ainais Smith is out with an injury for the rest of the year – and the running game isn’t working. The defense is carrying this team, and while Mississippi State doesn’t run the ball a lick, quarterback Will Rogers is moving the ball on everyone. Mississippi State 31, Texas A&M 20.

LSU @ Auburn – LSU needs to stop going down big early before fighting back to win. They almost did it against Florida State, then pulled off a massive comeback against a Mississippi State team that is still really good. Jayden Daniels has been outstanding – his back injury against New Mexico MUST be minor for LSU to do anything this season – but LSU should have way too much for an Auburn team that will keep this interesting for a half. LSU 31, Auburn 14.

(1) Georgia @ Mizzou – The worst thing that could have happened for Mizzou was for Georgia to not look perfect in the 39-22 win over Kent State. The game was way closer to being 52-14 than anything will talk about – there were too many field goals and one big pass play for the Golden Flashes – and now people are asking questions about the best team in the country. Georgia comes out swinging here. Georgia 52, Mizzou 14.
