Challenges for Alabama

Alabama enters this game as a 40-point favorite over Vandy. The Tide’s biggest challenge in this game is overconfidence which produces players that are flat mentally on game day. This Vanderbilt team has some weapons. Running back Ray Davis is fourth in the SEC in all-purpose yards (117.6). Wide receiver Will Sheppard is No. 1 nationally in touchdown receptions with seven. Vanderbilt has solid special teams. Australian punter Matt Hayball is No. 1 nationally in punting averaging just under 49 yards per punt. Former Alabama kicker Joseph Bulovas has connected on 16 of 21 field goals for the Commodores since coming to Vandy in 2021. Vandy’s defense still gives up points but they can be drive stoppers. The Commodore defense has allowed only two fourth-down conversions on 11 opponent attempts. Over the last two games, Vandy has found what appears to be a very solid quarterback in true freshman AJ Swann. In those two games, he’s completed 26 of 39 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns. Alabama will win this game but Vanderbilt could make it interesting, especially if the Bama team comes in sleepwalking.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 6:30 PM CT (7:30 PM ET). Watch this SEC football game on the SECN Network.
