Wright’s Renegade SEC Football Picks

Wright's Renegade SEC Picks

Great start for the SEC in 2022. Plenty of games have been one-sided, but the league is 14-1 entering Week 2 of the season.

By Steve Wright

Week Results: 14-1

Closest Pick: Tennessee 58, Ball State 14. The Actual was Tennessee 59, Ball State 10. Missed it by just five and was generally pretty good with the heavy scores this week.

Worst Pick
: LSU 28, FSU 24. To be fair, I was a missed extra point away from having a shot at a perfect week.

Season Results: 14-1 (93.3%). I’ll take it.

No. 1 Alabama @ Texas – Alabama blanked Utah State 55-0 in Week 1 while Texas picked on ULM 52-10 in Austin. This is a true road game against a Power Five (and future SEC) opponent, and if you don’t think that Nick Saban will have his squad ready for this, you haven’t been paying attention. Alabama 38, Texas 14.

South Carolina @ (16) Arkansas – Beamer Ball 2.0 had two blocked punts for touchdowns in the 35-14 win over a Georgia State team that will win more than it loses this season. Arkansas beat ranked Cincinnati, and they will get to Spencer Rattler enough to take this. Arkansas 34, South Carolina 20.

(23) Wake Forest @ Vanderbilt – Vandy is the early season SEC East leader as the only team at 2-0. Sadly, this is where their undefeated start comes to an end, but not before their rushing game gives the Demon Deacons a scare. Wake Forest 34, Vandy 24.

Mizzou @ Kansas State – A legitimate former Big 12 rivalry between two schools (and states) that really don’t like each other. Mizzou looked great offensively against La. Tech, while the Tigers gave up just 11 net yards in the game. Their running back depth takes this away from the Wildcats in the second half. Mizzou 41, K State 28.

Appalachian State @ (6) Texas A&M – Appalachian State scored 61 points and have a 40-point fourth quarter last weekend. They still lost by two. Texas A&M held a potent Sam Houston State offense to zero points in Week 1. Aggies 41, Appalachian State 10.

(24) Tennessee @ (17) Pitt – This Tennessee team is a lot of fun to watch. Pitt and West Virginia brawled their way to a Panthers win while the Vols dismantled Ball State. Feels like these two should have their rankings swapped. Tennessee 41, Pitt 31.

Samford @ Georgia – Literally nothing to say here other than I am sorry Samford after Georgia beat the pants off of a supposed CFP outsider. Georgia 63, Samford 3.

(20) Kentucky @ (12) Florida – Massive game. Kentucky is 2-2 against the Gators in the last four years, but Florida looks dangerous in 2022. Will Levis vs. Anthony Richardson is a great quarterback battle, and as good as Florida can be, I like Kentucky to sneak this. Kentucky 27, Florida 23.

Central Arkansas @ (22) Ole Miss – Ole Miss was comfortable (and great on defense) in Beating Troy 29-10. Central Arkansas went down against Missouri State, and it feels like this could be a long day away from their purple and grey home field. Ole Miss 38, Central Arkansas 13.

San Jose State @ Auburn – Feed Tank Bigsby. Get Bigsby his touchdowns. Get him out of the game. Auburn’s offense rolls over San Jose State in this one. Auburn 41, San Jose State 13.

Southern @ LSU – Get the offense firing, stop southern (they scored 86 points last week) from thinking they have a shot and get the starters out. LSU 48, Southern 10.

Mississippi State @ Arizona – Arizona is better than it was a year ago and will be hosting the Bulldogs in a game that doesn’t kick off until 10:00 pm Starkville time. Mike Leach has his offense in gear, however, with Will Rogers passing for five touchdowns and over 450 yards last weekend. He goes off again. Mississippi State 45, Arizona 21.
