South Carolina-Kentucky Prediction
The South Carolina Gamecocks have cleaned up against the middle and lower tiers of the SEC, but they have not yet shown they can beat the three best teams in the conference. They lost to LSU. They lost to Tennessee. Now they get a first crack at a Kentucky team which is rolling. The Wildcats are locked in at the defensive end of the floor. Ashton Hagans has become the spiritual leader for Big Blue. No longer coexisting in a more crowded and cluttered backcourt with Quade Green – due to Green’s transfer to Washington – Hagans has been able to flourish. Kentucky stifles opponents on the perimeter, and the big men are reliable at cleaning the backboard to minimize second-chance points. It’s a simple but devastating defensive formula. Don’t expect South Carolina to solve it. Kentucky 71, South Carolina 59 (Matt Zemek).
