Mississippi State plays at South Carolina on Tuesday in a key SEC basketball matchup. Look inside for a preview of the game along with a final score prediction.
This is the most interesting SEC game of the night. Mississippi State has steadily been building its program under Ben Howland. The Bulldogs appear to have a really good shot, not merely an outside chance, of making the NCAA Tournament this season. Winning on the road, against a flawed but very tough South Carolina team which just beat Florida in Gainesville, is exactly the kind of test MSU must pass if it wants to be worthy of March Madness and take the next step. This game offers every appearance of being a down-to-the-wire slugfest with a lot of contested shots. Howland and South Carolina coach Frank Martin both preach defense first. Which team is going to get in the mud and win battles for 50-50 balls? MSU has a lot of talent, but skepticism is warranted early in the season. South Carolina 66, Mississippi State 64. (Matt Zemek)
