Mississippi State-Auburn Prediction

Does Auburn want to be in the NCAA Tournament? A team which has lost at home to Kentucky and Ole Miss can’t fool around any longer. Bruce Pearl’s team has not been a lockdown force at home, allowing a few games to slip away and muddy AU’s overall resume. Now, the Tigers get a chance to improve their portfolio at home. Mississippi State’s computer numbers have been good for the past several weeks. Ben Howland will return to the NCAA Tournament, the result of patient coaching. MSU’s improvement in recent weeks has been based on a noticeably better defense. The increased playing time of unheralded Tyson Carter in the backcourt has unearthed a tougher defensive identity, just as Howland had hoped. The last game these teams played was a 92-84 MSU win. Expect a lot fewer points this time. Auburn might be unreliable, but it will go all-out to win this game. Auburn 75, Mississippi State 71. (Matt Zemek)
