Scouting Report

Alabama (11-7, 4-2 SEC) most recently defeated lowly Vanderbilt 77-62 in Nashville on Wednesday. In that game the Tide jumped out to a 28-17 lead with 7:00 to go in the first half. Vandy battled back and cut the lead to 37-31 at the half. Alabama opened the second half with an 18-6 run that gave the Crimson Tide a 57-37 lead with 10:19 remaining in the game. Alabama would cruise on to victory. John Petty Jr. led Alabama in scoring with 23 points. Petty hit 5 of 10 from 3-point range. All five of his 3-point makes were made in the first half. Freshman forward Dylan Disu led the Commodores with 21 points. Alabama out-shot Vandy 46%-31% from the field and 34.5%-19% from 3-point range. Alabama as a team for the season is hitting 44% from the field, 36% from 3-point range and 72% from the line.

Kansas State (8-10, 1-5 Big 12) most recently was defeated at Kansas 81-60 on Tuesday night. Just three days before the loss to the Jayhawks the Wildcats earned an 84-68 home upset win over a 14-3 West Virginia team. That game ended a 4-game conference losing streak for KSU. Xavier Sneed leads KSU in scoring averaging 14.7 points per game. Sneed is a 3-point shooting threat with 35 made threes. Sneed is also his team’s leading rebounder (4.7 rpg). Cartier Diarra is the only other double digit scorer for the Wildcats (12.9 ppg). For the season, Kansas State is hitting 42.5% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range and 66% from the line.

Kansas State is kind of like Missouri and Texas A&M. They don’t usually score a lot of points but they don’t allow many points either. Alabama is fortunate to catch Kansas State in a down year for a match in Coleman Coliseum. We don’t see this KSU team being able to keep up with the Tide but the outcome of this game isn’t a given.

Kansas State-Alabama Prediction

Alabama 75, Missouri 66

Saturday’s game tips off at 6:00 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT). TV: ESPN2.
