Scouting Report
Auburn (17-2, 4-2 SEC) defeated Iowa State 80-76 on Saturday in Auburn. Iowa State led briefly in the opening moments but Auburn would quickly take the lead and then build a 42-31 lead by halftime. In the second half the Tigers built as much as a 17-point lead but in the last ten minutes of the game Iowa State methodically narrowed the Tiger lead. However, it was too little, to late. The closest the Cyclones could get was within four points but time ran out on them. Isaac Okora led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points. Guard Rasir Bolton led the Cyclones with 23 points. Bolden made a key three in the final minute to cut the Auburn lead to five.
Guard Samir Doughty leads the Tigers in scoring (14.6 ppg). Okoro is the next leading scorer with 12.8 points a game. Center Austin Wiley is the top Tiger in rebounds, bringing down over 9 per game. Auburn is third in the SEC in scoring offense (79.1 ppg) and first in the conference in scoring margin (+11.2). The Tigers are fourth in the league in rebounding margin (+4.8) and second in blocked shots (5.7 bpg).
Ole Miss (10-9, 1-5 SEC) defeated Georgia 70-60 on Saturday in Athens. The Rebels led this game throughout the first half building as much as a 10-point lead and then heading to the locker room up 35-29 at the half. In the second half Georgia took its first lead of the game on an Anthony Edwards 3-pointer with 12:31 remaining in the game. However, Ole Miss quickly retook the lead and would never trail again. The Rebs led by as much as 11 points in the final minutes of the game. Breein Tyree led Ole Miss in scoring with 20 points. Guard Jordan Harris paced Georgia with 15 points. The two teams were fairly even in shooting from the line and 3-point range. However, Ole Miss had a clear advantage from field goal range making 26 of 50 shots (52%) compared to the Bulldog’s 17 of 55 shots (31%).
So far this season the Rebels Tyree (18.9 ppg) is the team’s leading scorer. Blake Hinson (10.9 ppg) and KJ Buffen (10.1, ppg) are the Rebel other top scorers. Buffen is also the Rebels top rebounder averaging 6.3 boards a game.
Ole Miss is No. 11 in scoring offense (68.1 ppg) in the SEC. They rank ninth in the conference in scoring defense (67.0 ppg). The Rebels are sixth in the SEC in 3-point shooting accuracy (31.9%) and fifth in the conference in 3-point shooting defense (29.9%). Mississippi is sixth in the conference in assists with 260 so far this season. Assist to turnover ratio (6th, 1.0) is another stat in which the Rebels excel. The Rebels are 14th in the league in blocked shots (2.7 bpg).
Auburn should have the edge here but Ole Miss appears to have underachieved this season. They might pull off a stunner in Oxford but the Tigers are more likely to win.
