Kerry Blackshear is the Gators top scorer so far this season averaging 13.8 points per game. He’s also the Gator’s top rebounder (8.1 rpg). The second top points producer is Keyontae Johnson (13.5 ppg). Team statistics wise, Florida doesn’t shine or struggle in any particular statistical category. In most stats the Gators are in the middle of the pack. Two areas the Gators somewhat stands out in is rebounding margin (5th, +2.8) and 3-point shooting (3rd, 33.2%). Florida does struggle in the area of blocks (9th, 3.9 bpg) and assists (13th, 11.4 apg) and steals (12th, 6.0 spg).
Kentucky (21-5, 11-2 SEC) defeated LSU 79-76 on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge. Immanuel Quickley led the Cats with 21 points while Skylar Mays topped the Tigers with 17 points. Kentucky outshot the Tigers in all 3 phases of the game but LSU’s rebounding edge (45-33) helped keep the score close.
UK is averaging 75.4 points per game so far this season and allows 65.6 points a contest. Quickley leads the Cats in scoring (14.9 ppg). The other players who also average at least 12 points a game include Ashton Hagans, Nick Richards and Tyrese Maxey. Richards also leads the team in rebounding (8.2 rpg). Hagans is one of the best guards in the country both offensively and defensively. Kentucky as a team is shooting 46.3% (2nd SEC) from the field, 33.3% (2nd SEC) from 3-point range and 78.9% (1st SEC) from the line. The Cats are third in the league in 3-point shooting defense (29.3%) and second in the conference in field goal shooting defense (38.4%).
Both these teams are coming off big road wins. Florida is one team that seems to have improved gradually as the season has progressed. Winning in Rupp Arena is not easy. Kentucky should win this one.
