Scouting Report

Florida (14-8, 6-3 SEC) defeated Georgia on Wednesday night in Gainesville. Georgia led most of the first half taking a 41-26 lead to halftime. In the second half the Bulldogs extended their lead to 52-30 with 16:41 to play. Florida then began to cut into that UGA lead. By the 12:27 mark the lead was down to eight at 55-47 on a Keyontae Johnson 3-point shot. Florida, with 9:18 to play, cut the Bulldog lead to just one point at 57-56 on a Tre Mann layup. Just 36 seconds later the Gators took a 59-57 lead on a Andrew Nembhard 3-point shot. The Gators would never trail again. Nembhard led the Gators with 25 points. Anthony Edwards paced the Bulldogs with 32 points.

Kerry Blackshear is the Gators top scorer so far this season averaging 13.9 points per game. He’s also the Gator’s top rebounder (8.2 rpg). The second top points producer is Keyontae Johnson (13.4 ppg). Team statistics wise, Florida doesn’t shine or struggle in any particular statistical category. In most stats the Gators are in the middle of the pack. Two areas the Gators somewhat stands out in is rebounding margin (5th, +2.9) and 3-point shooting (3rd, 33.8%). Florida does struggle in the area of blocks (9th, 3.9 bpg) and assists (13th, 11.5 apg) and steals (11th, 6.1 spg).

Ole Miss (11-11, 2-7 SEC) defeated South Carolina 84-70 on Saturday in Oxford. In the first half the Rebels built a 23-12 lead with 10:09 to play in the first half. Ole Miss continued to maintain that lead for remainder of the half and would lead 43-32 at the half. In the second half the Rebels built as much as a 19-point lead with 6:47 to play. In the final minutes the Gamecocks were able to pull the score within 9 points but they could not get closer. Breein Tyree led the Rebels with 38 points. Jermaine Couisnard topped the Gamecocks with 28 points.

So far this season the Rebel’s Breein Tyree (18.9 ppg) is the team’s leading scorer. Blake Hinson (10.7 ppg), Devontae Shuler (11.3 ppg) and KJ Buffen (9.8, ppg) are the Rebel other top scorers. Buffen is also the Rebels top rebounder averaging 5.9 boards a game.

Ole Miss is No. 11 in scoring offense (69.2 ppg) in the SEC. They rank ninth in the conference in scoring defense (68.1 ppg). The Rebels are fifth in the SEC in 3-point shooting accuracy (32.1%) and sixth in the conference in 3-point shooting defense (30.1%). Mississippi is sixth in the conference in assists with 299 so far this season. Assist to turnover ratio (5th, 1.0) is another stat in which the Rebels excel. The Rebels are 14th in the league in blocked shots (2.7 bpg).

Florida and Ole Miss met back in mid January in Gainesville with the Gators prevailing 71-55. Ole Miss plays a lot better at home but Florida should still be considered the favorite in this one.
