LSU (17-5, 8-1 SEC) fell to Vanderbilt 99-90 on Wednesday in Nashville. In that game the surprising Commodores built as much as a 13 point lead in the first half before heading to halftime up 52-47. In the second stanza the Commodores maintained their lead until a Skylar Mays’ field goal put the Tigers on top 81-80 with 6:46 to play. The LSU lead was short lived, however, and Vandy stretched its lead to 10 points with under a minute left to play to seal the shocking victory over the Tigers. Saben Lee led the Commodores with 33 points while teammate Maxwell Evans tallied a career high 31 points. LSU’s Trendon Watford topped the Tigers with 26 points. Vanderbilt won this game from beyond the 3-point arc. The Commodores had 12 made 3-pointers to the Tigers’four.
LSU averages 80.2 points per game, second in the SEC. The Tigers are allowing opponents 71. points per contest, 11th in the league. LSU as a team shoots 48% from the field, 30.5% from 3-point range, and 76.8% from the line. Skylar Mays leads the Tigers in scoring averaging 15.3 points per game. Auburn (20-2, 7-2 SEC) defeated Arkansas 79-76 in overtime on Tuesday in Fayetteville. Arkansas had a double digit lead with 7 minutes left in the game but the Tigers battled back to force an overtime period. Mason Jones scored all seven of the Razorbacks’ points in overtime but it wasn’t enough. Jones was Arkansas’ leading scorer with an impressive 40 points. Samir Doughty led the Tigers with 23.
Guard Samir Doughty leads the Tigers in scoring (15.5 ppg). Okoro is the next leading scorer with 13.0 points a game. Center Austin Wiley is the top Tiger in rebounds, bringing down 8.9 per game.
