NOTE: THIS SERIES HAS BEEN CANCELLED due to the pandemic. Kentucky travels to Vanderbilt for a 3-game, Friday-Sunday SEC baseball series. 14Powers.com SEC Baseball previews the series and predicts the series winner.
Two old rivals open their conference slates in Nashville. Defending national champion Vanderbilt has played a schedule with a mixture of cupcakes and solid programs. They’ve gone out to the west coast and won 2 of 6 with losses to Michigan, Cal Poly, UCLA and USC, all by one run. The Commodores did defeat TCU in Los Angeles by 1 run. Kentucky’s played a fairly tough schedule. A good number of their opponents have winning records. The Cats opened the season being swept three games by top 5 TCU. Concerning was a 3-game sweep of UK at home by UNC Wilmington. Vanderbilt’s at the top of the league in pitching and in the bottom third at hitting. Kentucky is in the top third of the league batting wise and dead last pitching. Vandy has Kumar Rocker and Mason Hickman, two players who pitched well in the College World Series, both back. Vandy has obviously lost some hitting punch. John Rhodes is batting over .400 for the Cats. Vandy should win this series 2-1 and might very well sweep Kentucky.
