pregame dining

Post by Podge91 » Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:13 am

Coming to the game Saturday as part of my 50th birthday weekend celebration

Looking for viable dining options before the game. Not extravagant or outrageous, but delicious and unique. Not a chain I can go to at home.

I've always loved Merchant's downtown but their upstairs dining hours don't match up well with our timetable.

We like steak, seafood, etc. Normal food. My wife is both gluten free and picky.

Whatcha got?

Personally, I would recommend Hattie B's, and the closest one to Vandy is on 112 19TH AVE S. Hot chicken is a Nashville specialty, and Hattie B's is one of the best.

Brown's Diner at 2102 Blair Blvd, Nashville, TN 37212. It is an old, old, old place, and it is run down. Probably the same ceiling tile as was first put in the place when my late grandfather first started going. But great service, great burgers, not crowded, and the beer is always cold:) I have gone there for years prior to basketball and baseball games. Football we generally tailgate.

I like Ted’s Montana Grill. My wife gets the vegetable plate while I get a bison steak.

It’s only three blocks from the stadium.

I don't live in Nashville so I don't have a lot of comparisons. Ate at Urban Grub on South 12th last time in town and it was outstanding. Lots of menu choices. Borderline extravagant but not outrageous. Not super close to campus, but closer than downtown.

Update:

We are staying at a hotel near the airport (thanks to a Groupon) and due to time constraints involved with driving up from Chattanooga and eating before the game and browsing the bookstore an hour before kickoff...

Any good places near the airport/Briley Parkway area?

If a late lunch will sate you, https://monellstn.com/at-the-manor/

Yes- Monell's. It's different, and it's really good. Plus, you'll probably eat enough to cover two meals.

For a non-chain restaurant near the airport, I would recommend Darfons. http://www.darfonsrestaurant.com/.

I think this is our choice. I've planned our itinerary and if we leave Chatty at 1 Eastern, we go straight to Darfons and eat. Then check in, bundle up, drive to VU, browse the bookstore, and hit seats 15 prior to kickoff.

You could stop in the 'Boro and check out Demos'. Not so much a chain as a local restaurant with several locations.

Good to hear that Brown's is still there. I haven't been there in 20 years or more. And I'm still trying to get the smell of Mack's Country Cooking out of my pores after all these years.
