To be honest, I watched the game on TV, and the camera angle from the outfield made it pretty clear that he never tagged the runner. He swiped at him but missed.

That's what it looked like to me, too. Kaiser never got the tag on him. Unfortunately, it was that kind of night.

The photo is certainly not definitive, Kaiser's body blocks any clear view of tag or no tag. The previous posters are right, none of the replays showed a clear tag, nor did they show a clear no tag. The umpire was in perfect position to see the entire play and he watched it through to the finish. He was confident in his call and the replay did nothing to dispute that call. Don't like it, but the runner was safe.
