Goose you are tough audience, Paul deserves a 5 for defense just for the double play he helped turn Sat where he dove to his right to catch the ball and did a glove flip of the ball over his head to 2nd while laying on the ground. Been looking for the video with no luck.

And Demarco a 4.8 in hitting. A freshman, in his first three college games against a top 20 team goes 8-13, plus a walk and a HBP, scores 4 runs, and has 1 RBI. Maybe if he is a preseason all-American Senior he gets a 4.8, but here? Scheech.
And in 2 wins we give up 2 runs, but all but two pitchers are rated just above average or less and only ONE rated good. Tough judging. Bet the Olympic skaters are glad you aren't judging! Ha.

Smiling big time. Yea I guess I’m a little tuff. That was some play by Ethan. Should of made espn. I have to admit. Yea Mason Hickman was pretty impressive, but below Herron and Conine and the center fielder I felt they were just average. Anchor Down. Love them Vandy Boys!

Duke is a very good, very experienced, junior-senior laden team. Without going back to research, I think they had all position players and top 3 starters return from last year. This was no cupcake opening weekend. I wonder if there were any other top-25 match-ups around the country on the opening weekend. Texas-La Lafayette was a good match-up, but not as tough as VU-Duke.

When you consider the number of freshman who made huge contributions, then this series was EXCELLENT! The defense was very sound and occasionally spectacular, same with the pitching. And one of the best hitters in the country, Infante, had a tough series and didn't contribute much. (Please know this isn't a knock on the big guy; he struggled, it happens to every player who has ever played the game, and he will certainly hit as the season progresses. And having said that, I didn't get to watch any of the games, but it sounds like he smoked a couple line drives that were caught...bad luck happens). Corbs put together a really challenging pre-conference schedule this season (the Houston-L.A.road trip with 7 very tough games will be revealing). The Duke series was a great start...even the loss was a well-played game.

I don't care about individual ratings...the team played very well and has a very high ceiling. I'm excited for this season!

Team A .194 BA with 18 hits and 7 runs in 3 games= 3.75
Team B .339 BA with 37 hits and 22 runs in 3 games= 3.75

I appreciate the effort, but don't understand the methodology.

But remember that Duke's lowly .194 was against a vastly superior Vanderbilt pitching staff rated at 3.5. The Vanderbilt batters hit .339 against a weak 3.0 Duke pitching staff. :P

Hey Goose. Again, I appreciate you kick starting this thread with your analysis. It would be great to have a weekly "review" every Monday open for discussion.
