Not necessarily. This doesn’t secure a roster spot. It is a good part of his learning process though.

Okay. Simply because I want to hold out hope, this would seem to indicate his first choice is to go pro / G league sinc he has accepted no other college offer. If that is the case, does a return to VU seem at least possible should G league fall through ?UltimateVUFan wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 12:20 pmNot necessarily. This doesn’t secure a roster spot. This doesn’t mean anything yet. If he goes out there and dominates and catches everyone’s attention then maybe it changes things. Don’t forget pippen jr went through the same process before returning. There’s a reason Lawrence hasn’t hired an agent so he could maintain college eligibility.UltimateVUFan wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 12:20 pmNot necessarily. This doesn’t secure a roster spot. If Lawrence does well enough he might get an invitation to the NBA draft combine.

In the G league team basketball may be non-existent. Lawrence may miss those QMB screens.

Re: Tyrin Lawrence at the G League combine today
That might get him a 50-50 shot at the NBA combine which might get him a free agent shot at a summer league roster spot.
The competition is massive and the list of guys at the G showcase doesn't even include international players.
I think he should return to VU for one year, be the focus of the offense and improve his draft stock. Not saying that to be a selfish fan, but as a person who keeps up fairly closely with what goes on in the NBA.

Re: Tyrin Lawrence at the G League combine today
There is a whole lot of truth in what you are saying, and there is a huge part of me that wants this to happen as you say. Unfortunately, something is going on concerning money for him, which is totally understandable. He has a kid, and needs to provide. On top of that, this wild wild west NIL mess that more than anything was caused by so much greed for decades, its tough to blame anyone that wants to get paid! I can't fault any player in any sport that wants what is best for his family, but schools & conferences had so many chances to do better for their students, but it didn't happen til it was forced. We aren't going to get the day of school loyalty at least until better rules are in place. This is a very talented young man. Could he return, and get much better? Most likely, but the NBA loves potential more than finished products today. If he has a chance to make it, and get paid, I can't fault any player. Tyrin will always be one of my favorites, but also one of my "what could of been". Put him on some teams from years gone by, and he would of helped to make them one of the best teams we ever had at Vandy. I will be grateful for what he gave us, and that amazing game winner against the name that shall not be mentioned...MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:24 am That might get him a 50-50 shot at the NBA combine which might get him a free agent shot at a summer league roster spot.

Re: Tyrin Lawrence at the G League combine today
Actually if the current NBA was looking for long-term instead of "NBA-ready" guys like Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith wouldn't have been so coveted. NBA teams and their fans want a first round pick spent on a guy who is ready to be a rotation player. If a first round guy ends up on a 2-way (injuries not withstanding)...they are usually considered a bust...fair or unfair...even if the kid is only 19 years old.

Former CPA Drew Maddux guard Tyger Campbell with a good day. He may have played himself into a summer league invitation.

FWIW Lawrence did not receive an invite to the NBA draft combine, which started yesterday.

Explains the photo I saw this evening of Bruce Pearl. He had a big grin on his face, an open checkbook in one hand, and a binky in the other hand,AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 7:17 am FWIW Lawrence did not receive an invite to the NBA draft combine, which started yesterday.
