Slugfests

This team seemingly can't win a slugfest.
If the other team is scoring big, it seems to kill our offense. Even mediocre pitching suffices to shut down Vanderbilt's bats if the other team opens the scoring with a big inning.
It feels like we can only win when our pitching is dictating the game. When this happens we are capable of scoring, even scoring big. But if our pitching gets lit up early, we often get shut out.
I don't see how we get through the post season without running into a slugging opponent.

8 SEC games yesterday (Auburn played 2 at Ole Miss).

4 run-rule games!

We can win slugfests, but we need discipline.

We just beat Louisville 12-8 on the road.

The issue is: our leadoff guys need to work counts (especially if the strike zone is a thimble) not hack at the first pitch.

With two strikes we need to choke up, go for contact, and go with pitches instead of pulling everything.

We are having too many “stat” at bats, and not enough “team” at-bats that advance runners, make contact, work walks etc. Longballs are fun, but we need base runners - and we need to advance them when we get them.

90 percent of sports is mental.

The other 50 percent is in their head.

That's good advice for batters with 0 and 1 strike as well (in most situations). Hitting HR's is not our forte.
