UCLA #3

Re: UCLA #3
Davis Diaz HR ironically set up by small ball. UCLA intent on stopping the Vandy run game, pitches-out twice with Vastine on 1st. Pitcher eventually set a batting practice pitch on a tee for DD, and he did not miss it. 2-0 Dores to 3rd.
Re: UCLA #3
Futrell hasn't been particularly sharp (26 strikes, 24 balls), but he's been effective. Two infield singles, a walk, and EBjr chasing down a couple of potential extra-base knocks for easy F8s.
Re: UCLA #3
EBjr steals 2nd easily on what looked like another pitch-out. Catcher was standing to throw before the pitcher finished his delivery. Bruins clearly intent on stopping Vandy run game. EBjr out at 3rd trying to catch pitcher sleeping...he wasn't

Re: UCLA #3
There are times to try to steal a base (which with EBJ is most of the time) and times not to. Two outs, a runner on 2nd, and your 3rd place hitter up was one of those "not to's". Unless you're 99% sure of making it.

Geez, I agree. Did Corbin signal him to run or was that EB's decision?geeznotagain wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 1:02 pm There are times to try to steal a base (which with EBJ is most of the time) and times not to. Hard to tell from the telecast, but that almost had to be on EBjr. He looked to take off when the pitcher was looking at the catcher for signs.Go Vandy! wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 1:10 pmGeez, I agree. Re: UCLA #3
Worked out keeping him in. Futrell gets a 3rd-out F9 to the warning track, though Schreck had a bit of an adventure on what was just a deep routine fly.

Re: UCLA #3
I think it’s time to begin posting this year’s stats on the screen rather than last year’s.
Re: UCLA #3
Rough weekend for the offense. Through 5 innings today which means we've been at bat for 22 innings so far in this series and have only scored in 3 of those.
Re: UCLA #3
Equally sweet inside-out-swing oppo-field RBI single on what looked like a pretty good pitch
Re: UCLA #3
Nice recovery by the freshman pitcher getting those two huge Ks on terrific pitches. Big moment for him.
Re: UCLA #3
Kinda like Carter Young last year, why would you ever throw Espinal a fastball. He waves at every slider thrown his way, drives fastballs in the zone.

MaldoNoNo in the 7th. Early! Wonder how long Corbs plans to go with him today. I like this move! Slider lethal to the first 2 hitters. Three fastballs to the 3rd guy have all been up-and-in where he can't make good contact, same on the 3rd out F8. Terrific inning!
