Signed with the Astros for $50,000. As a 5 star outfielder, you would think either he'd have gotten more or might have come to VU and tried to get an NIL deal. Could probably have done better going that route. Now he gets his 50k and will make $300-600 a week and ride buses all over the country. Oh well.

That’s only $40,000 in 2021 dollars.

Either he is a horrible student ( unlikely) or he has made a horrible decision. $50,000 ? * Good grief he listened to some very bad advice.

*article I saw hinted Astros may have some excess bonus money available

$50K is nearly minimum wage. Wish him the best since VU is like $50K a semester of education.

Where did you see that he signed for $50K? Only reports I've seen have indicated Astros cleared roughly $1M to try to get him off his college commitment.

Also, it still doesn't show that Vaz has signed...Round 15, 445.

Clifford got a million. There are multiple sources reporting that figure.

Millbrandt got $1.5m and has signed (as expected).

This class is officially a disaster. We lose more sheer numbers through the portal than we bring in as freshmen. Meanwhile, UT, LSU, and Ole MS have first rounders transferring IN>

So does CTC have to significantly revise his “business model”?

LSU just got the Air Force Catcher we were in the running for. I have no idea what LSU's NIL budget was (or Tennessee), but we cannot compete if we don't play the same game. The transfer portal is bad enough, but in the next couple of years it will trickle down into recruiting. I suppose if that happens we won't be losing guys to the draft, but either way, changes that won't feel comfortable need to happen.

Imagine the NFL, NBA, or MLB with every player on a 1 year contract and no salary cap. That's what college athletics has become. The situation is not sustainable.

I don't think it is sustainable at the ridiculous level we are seeing now, but competing at the highest level is not sustainable if you don't have some sort of NIL pool. I trust in Corbs to get the right character of kids here, but who knows if those guys will be good enough to win championships.

Maybe Vanderbilt Baseball has gotten like ...

... Kentucky Men's Basketball, in that if Vanderbilt recruits the player he must be something special and the MLB team drafting him ponies up some more cash.

They don't want to draft him, lose him to the 'Dores, and watch him tear up college baseball for three years before some other team gets him.
