Spencer Jones 6 for 6

Post by vandy86 »

When I saw this I thought it might be a SEC or NCAA record for hits in a game or batting average for a game with the minimum number of hits being 6.
Was I wrong . It has been done 15 times in the SEC with the batter going 6 for 6. Charlie Connelly , the LSU and New York Giants QB, did it in 1947.
I didn’t bother to check the NCAA record
Anyway great job Spencer and getting the walkoff rbi to boot!

I think they said the last time a VU player did that was 1934.

Not to be that guy, but it was Charlie Conerly, and he attended Ole Miss, not LSU.

So which one went 6-for-6 as a batter, Tittle or Conerly?

Spencer Jones for sure did it: he won the game for us pure and simple. Quite a performance.

Based on my extensive deep dive research...Wikipedia...it had to have been Conerly. He played baseball at Ole Miss and according to my, ahem, highly reliable source, he was offered a professional baseball contract.
