However, this has less to do with political motivations than the NCAA postseason stipulations. If all contributing members of a team (players, coaches, trainers, etc) have the vaccination they cannot be subjected to covid testing under any circumstance. All teams knew this and only Vandy played it safe on the field by requiring the vaccination shot. All teams knew the competitive risk and 63 teams gambled. I would be surprised if Miss St and Texas don't have a few cases pop up later on since there is a confirmed (very recent) outbreak of a strain not covered by the vaccines.
What specialties in the medical field?
Infectious disease? Critical care? Pulmonology?
Or dental hygenists?
Did they volunteer this idiocy independently, or just decide not to get in an argument over flat Earth conspiracies and similar delusions?

Vaccination is a medical treatment. It is only political in the minds of people who want to make a Red-Blue fight over every single thing in life.
One is a cardiovascular surgeon and one is a cellular biologist. I consider them as the two "most in the know" of the bunch and they offer their opinions freely when away from the vigors of the medical world and work. Also an osteopathic doctor, several "family practitioners" of various backgrounds, two surgeons (not sure of degree), one dentist, and several other various medical specialists. Each of the latter group defers their judgements to people they know in specialized fields and almost all feel as if we're chasing the tail still. As for blue and red; several are red, several are blue, and several I have no clue on which way they lean as I try to avoid talk of politics with clients.

I have no doubt that the way it was originally drawn up, it would have applied to all private schools, but Vanderbilt's lobbyist probably had it altered.

Welcome to the South, folks.

And don't come down on the NC State coach too hard, because he didn't have the authority to require his team to get the vaccine.
Again, he didn't have the authority to *require* everyone to be vaccinated ... but there is an awful lot he could have done to encourage it, even without resorting to threats. Telling players its the expectation. Framing it as being a good teammate. Framing it as important to protect yourself in case of an outbreak on the team.

This isn't a case of "oh, they didn't have 100% vaccination" and the coach sure didn't sound like he tried hard to encourage the players to be vaccinated.

Avent was asked Monday why he cut practice time by half. He mentioned assistant coach Hart being sick for a few days and several players feeling ill. All teams were notified of testing schedules and protocols beforehand. They should have tested every single player and coach before leaving campus. Instead, they went to Omaha with wishful thinking and it bit them.

Strongly disagree that this is the N.C. State coach's fault. Do not think he should be fired! To be vaccinated is a personal decision. Many medical people do not think the vaccination safe. On the contrary...

List of required immunizations for all inbound students at all colleges in the state of North Carolina:

Per North Carolina state law, students will be WITHDRAWN FROM THE UNIVERSITY 30 days after classes begin if immunization requirements have not been met.

Immunizations REQUIRED pursuant to North Carolina state law and institutional policy:

• Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis: Individuals entering a college or university must have 3 doses of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis; one of which must be a Tdap booster (given after 2005).

• Polio: An individual attending school who has attained their 18th birthday is not required to receive polio vaccine.

• *Measles: Two doses at least 28 days apart are required for individuals entering college or university. The requirement for a second dose does not apply to individuals who entered school, college or university for the first time before July 1, 1994. A person who has been diagnosed prior to January 1, 1994 by a physician (or designee such as a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant) as having measles (rubeola) or an individual who has been documented by serological testing to have a protective antibody titer against measles is not required to receive measles vaccine. Individuals born before 1957 are not required to receive measles vaccine except in measles outbreak situations.

• *Mumps: Two doses are required for individuals entering college or university. A physician's diagnosis is not acceptable for mumps disease(s). Individuals must be immunized or have laboratory confirmation of disease or have been documented by serological testing to have a protective antibody against mumps. Individuals born before 1957 are not required to receive the mumps vaccine. Individuals that entered college or university before July 1, 1994 are not required to receive the vaccine. Individuals that entered school, college, or university before July 1, 2008 are not required to receive the second dose of mumps vaccine.

• *Rubella: One dose is required for individuals entering college or university. A physician's diagnosis is not acceptable for rubella disease(s). Individuals must be immunized or have laboratory confirmation of rubella disease or have been documented by serological testing to have a protective antibody titer against rubella. Any individual who has attained their fiftieth birthday is not required to receive rubella vaccine except in outbreak situations. Any individual who entered college or university after their thirtieth birthday and before February 1, 1989 is not required to receive rubella vaccine except in outbreak situations.

• Hepatitis B: Three doses are required for individuals entering college or university. A 2 dose series of Heplisav-B is acceptable (this vaccine is only available in the United States). Hepatitis B titers are not acceptable for this requirement; students will need to show documentation of completed vaccine series. Hepatitis B vaccine is not required if an individual was born before July 1, 1994.

• Varicella: One dose or proof of laboratory confirmation of varicella disease immunity. Varicella vaccine or proof of immunity is not required if an individual was born before April 1, 2001.

* Two doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) will meet this requirement

I know some may scoff purely because of the source, but this article from CNN goes through debunking reasons not to get the vaccine:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/28/health/c ... index.html

The article does try to stay mostly out of the political realm, and it is admittedly a few months old and certain things do keep evolving with COVID. But the long and short of it...

YES, the vaccine is safe. While we don't have decades f specific data on the covid vaccine (obviously) decades of data on other vaccines indicate that vaccines are EXTREMELY unlikely to have long term consequences. So as long as you don't have an allergic reaction, you are good to go.

YES, the vaccine is effective. The only reason is does not have full approval by the FDA is that the length of time the vaccine protects you has not yet been determined (but, last I read, appears to likely be more than 6 months). That's the last obstacle. Not safety. Not efficacy. But length of protection, which couldn't possibly have been determined sooner.

If you don't listen to or trust the government much, then I can't help you with that. I myself tend to trust science and people who are experts in the field and acting on the best available information. Even if that guidance turns out ot be wrong and changes, I recognize that that is what happens in science. You go with the most logical conclusion ... and then if and when new data emerges, you move on. That doesn't mean you "screwed up" or "were wrong" ... it means that better data indicates a different reality.

They won't fire him because they think they won the National Championship. My attitude towards NC State has gone from sympathy last Friday, to none at this point as this was largely self-inflicted, and the derangement from many of their fans is disgusting. To borrow from Arthur Fleck from "The Joker": What do you get when you are provided NCAA guidelines on testing of vaccinated and unvaccinated players, have over half you team unvaccinated, knowingly play with symptomatic players last Monday, admit that a "bug" is spreading through your team, ignore social distancing protocols and act like it is cold season in 2019? Answer: You get what you f**king deserve.

I can't argue that CNN has a liberal bias (which, as a liberal, I strangely don't mind too much). What I will say about them is that they clearly label their opinion/analysis pieces as separate from their news pieces, and they do legitimately source their information - that is, if it is presented as news it is almost certainly true (within the margin of error of typos, mistakes, and clarifications) and has been both sourced and verified. Though they certainly will use their true facts to lead the viewer/reader in a certain direction.

As you say though, this article (while clearly stemming from a pro-vaccine viewpoint) avoids direct political connotations, is full of facts and explanations explaining that viewpoint. It is certainly not propaganda. It's just ... science.

I point out now that many people on this board criticized the NC State coach for his comments about the vaccine being political. Some said he should be fired.

Now we are being told that Jay Cutler's views on the vaccine and masks are "political" and that we shouldn't criticize those views on this board.

And, unlike the NC State coach, Jay wants to be on MY school board.
