Unrelated fun fact.

Remember last fall when Evansville's basketball team won at Rupp Arena?

They are 0-16 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The best news from this game is that Jake Eder pitched very well, 5.2 innings, 11 Ks, 3 hits, 2 ERs, 2 BBs, threw 93 pitches (62 strikes) and was in control throughout. The 2 runs came in the 6th when he was getting a little gassed, a single followed by the #9 hitter going deep. Eder pitching well is huge as the Sunday starter, I believe, is the biggest question mark right now since this year's team won't likely score a lot of runs. Fri & Sat pitching is (obviously) superb, so after not pitching well in AZ last week, Eder today was a big boost!

The other thing is that the bullpen looks stacked with strong relivers.

Oh, Doctor! Based on the first 8 games, this may be Corbs' best pitching staff to date. Unlike so many past loaded VU staffs, this group throws lots of strikes. This season is going to fun to watch!

Not expecting scoring like last year but I would feel better about how far this team can go if we can wake the bats. First 2 games were better but only scoring 4 against the Sunday starter is not great. And only 2 HRs for the season.

Young bats probably explains why the pre-SEC schedule is relatively easy. Corbs trying to ease them in to the life of facing college pitching.
