Bad Weather
Out here trying to watch our supers in Denver, weather says 90% rain/thunderstorms Friday and Saturday, 80% Sunday, Monday. Anyone there think we can at least get some innings in each night? Or will there be total washes? Hard to tell I know

Re: Bad Weather
I'm hearing that it will rain a lot this weekend, but that there WILL be breaks in the rain. Conveniently, the NashSevereWx Twitter account has speculated that one might be tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Re: Bad Weather
Here is what the manual says: https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/champi ... Manual.pdf
Super Regionals
• The primary goal is to play the games according to the published schedule [one game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 7-9 format) or one game on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (June 8-10 format).]
• You should keep in touch with the local weather bureau and we also encourage you to evaluate the weather via www.weather.gov or www.weather.com.
If available, it is strongly recommended to have a local meteorologist on-site or at a minimum on-call to provide their expert analysis on any potential weather in the area.
• Lightning should be monitored via the Weather Sentry Online system. Please use these weather-monitoring devices when trying to determine starting times after a delay. The host institution is required to designate one individual whose main responsibility will be to monitor the weather/lightning during all practices and competition.
• As a general guideline, no game should start later than 11 p.m. local time.
• As another general guideline, no team should be scheduled to play more than two games in any given day.
• The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee prefers that one game per day be played whenever possible.
Please note that Monday, June 10 may have to be used to meet this guideline for the June 7-9 super regional format, while Tuesday, June 11 may have to be used to meet this guideline for the June 8-10 super regional format.
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS:
1. June 7-9 Format
a. If the Friday game is cancelled…..play one game each on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (if necessary).
b. If the Friday game is played and the Saturday game is cancelled…..play game two on Sunday and
game three (if necessary) on Monday.
c. If Friday and Saturday games are cancelled…..play games one and two on Sunday and game three (if
necessary) on Monday.
2. June 8-10 Format
a. If the Saturday game is cancelled…..play one game each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (if
necessary).
b. If the Saturday game is played and the Sunday game is cancelled…..play game two on Monday and
game three (if necessary) on Tuesday.
c. If Saturday and Sunday games are cancelled…..play games one and two on Monday and game three
(if necessary) on Tuesday.
Re: Bad Weather
Isnt this why we installed that ugly and un-american fake turf field? There should be zero delays.

Re: Bad Weather
Also, if not enough games can be played in time, here is how the team to go to the CWS is determined:
Super Regional. Every reasonable effort, including but not limited to moving the location of the games, should be made to complete a super regional round and advance a team to the Men’s College World Series (CWS) based on the results on the field. However, in the highly unlikely event that super regional play cannot be completed, the team that will advance to the CWS will be based on the following criteria:
- 0 games played = Better seeded team.
If two teams are of equal seed (e.g., two #2 seeds) then the team with the best RPI (calculated following completion of the regional competition) will advance to the College World Series.
- 1 game played = Winner of Game 1.
- 2 games played = Better seeded team.
If two teams are of equal seed (e.g., two #2 seeds) then the team with the best RPI (calculated following completion of the regional competition) will advance to the College World Series.
-------------------------------------------------
So while a complete rainout would be bad, it would guarantee Vandy advances to the CWS. It also is very important to win the first game, whenever it is played.

Re: Bad Weather
Fake turf won't ward off a monsoon with lightning, dangerous high winds, etc
Remember the infamous Temple football game?

Re: Bad Weather
Although rain seems inevitable all weekend, the forecasts are for the entire Nashville area, and it's not unheard of for there to be rain in one part of the area and only cloudy skies in another. So fingers crossed that the rain stays away from West End.

I don't think the weather service knows what is going to happen tomorrow. 18 consecutive hours of thunderstorms, I don't think so. Just be prepared for a possible delay for the start of the game and bring rain gear.
If you use Twitter, make sure to follow @VandyBoys for the most current game info. @joefishervu is pretty good too.

Re: Bad Weather
A tiny bit better forecast this morning. Looks like they may be able to play. Wet but no thunder.

Re: Bad Weather
Yeah, we (here in Montgomery) are supposed to have 4 inches of rain from Thursday through Sunday. As of now, we have had rain for 30 minutes and the weather guy just said it would not rain again until after lunch. So who knows what it is going to do.

Re: Bad Weather
I mentioned in another thread that when Sunday’s Texas A&M at West Virginia game was delayed by rain and lightning the NCAA allowed fans to leave the stadium and return later.
That option would be good for VU fans. At the very least have Memorial Gym available.

Re: Bad Weather
Last year in game three of the Super Regional, they opened Memorial Gym. It was so hot I decided to chance standing in the lightning (which was miles off). Unless you can withstand 95 degree heat in a building without any air circulation, I don't suggest going in there.Versus75 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:37 am I mentioned in another thread that when Sunday’s Texas A&M at West Virginia game was delayed by rain and lightning the NCAA allowed fans to leave the stadium and return later.

How horrible would it be to lose the only game played and be denied a trip to Omaha?

Re: Bad Weather
Amen, reverend!
I heard they are replacing it soon... was hoping for real stuff, but it ain't happening. If we are gonna have that ugly stuff, we should just make all the "grass" part gold and the "dirt" part black.

I guess you guys liked it when we had a whole bunch of rainouts and the players had to deal with the tarps. You do realize without the turf we probably wouldn't get any games in this weekend, right? As for it being unAmerican, WTF? fldore has a funny idea of what's unAmerican considering the original artificial turf, AstroTurf, was invented by Americans. SMH!

Re: Bad Weather
According to the Weather Channel's hourly forecasts for the next two days, it seems there will be a window without rain this evening and also Saturday evening.
Re: Bad Weather
It is pouring in Raleigh now and I believe most of southeast will have substantial rain. So many games will be affected!
