Re: VU vs Memphis
The talent disparity is evident. Not as bad as football, but enough to say we aren’t very good.

I am surprised we look this rough. I thought shooting would be an issue but we look just lazy, undisciplined, and zero grit.

They are more athletic but we have balls bouncing off our players heads for turnovers, letting people run right by us and scoring layups, players shooting then rebounding and putting it back up uncontested. That looks lazy and undisciplined. If they were just better I would not be so disappointed but we are inflicting a lot of wounds on ourselves.

Re: VU vs Memphis
The key to this season is that a number of players have to step up to make up for the loss of Pippen. A large part of that is Wright taking a step forward as a senior to become a consistent leader who is providing double digit scoring on a nightly basis.
If Wright it unable to correct this then we are in for a long season.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Drew Maddux is complimenting our sets. We have a much younger team than Memphis.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Concussion for sure for Ansong. Terrible bounce of head off the floor. He will be out for a while.

Re: VU vs Memphis
I think we will as well. The freshman look to have some potential and Stack’s teams seem to definitely improve throughout the year. I think we will go as Jordan Wright goes. He did not look very good tonight. He has a lot of potential to be really good.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Final score was not indicative of the game but we’re going to be tough once our freshmen get some experience.

Re: VU vs Memphis
You are right: a really tough opening game for so many frosh.
We lost it at the FT line: they made 17 of 19 and we shot 9 of 15.
Women win on road at Western with 4 PRESEASON starters out - WOW.

Re: VU vs Memphis
No offense. Wright looked awful except last 3 minutes he got energized....guess he was worried about his stats!!! Team looked disorganized like this was the first game ever played. One good thing I guessed a lot of folks got some PT. Very disappointed...LOTS to fix if possible.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Stack unhappy with our older players: not happy - he is going to coach them up. I am worried about Ansom the injury - shoulder and head. Stack is a good coach, but guys have to play - especially the veterans.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Memphis is a pretty good team, particularly defensively. This won’t be seen as a bad loss in terms of resume.
I believe Wright was among the guys who was recovering from a bug last week. Regardless, he MUST play better for this team to have a chance against teams of Memphis’s caliber.
Obviously we hoped for a better outcome, but our young players held their own against a solid team for much of the second half. I’m not discounting this team over one game against a superior opponent that is pretty much assuredly a tourney team barring lots of bad luck/injuries.
Edit: Most disappointing was probably QMB and Robbins. CJS was critical of their lack of rebounding and overall production with a size advantage.

Re: VU vs Memphis
Stack was very critical: I suspect we will see improved rebounding or different players playing.

Re: VU vs Memphis
I agree with UltimateVUFan's assessment of the game and caution anyone of making too much of this game as the team will obviously improve. The noticeable athletic difference between the teams and specifically the bigs is probably the most concerning thing that I saw as neither QMB or Robbins can move their feet very well and look kind of awkward when matched up to good athletes.
Memphis is pretty good but they were also working in a bunch of transfers. I get the feeling if those teams play 10 times, Memphis wins 9 or 10 of them.
