Re: Vanderbilt-Hawaii game thread
Halfway in, we're on our way to 264 yards of total offense, and giving up 392 through the air. Let's see how good our coaches are. Adjustment time.

Re: Vanderbilt-Hawaii game thread
First half thoughts that no one cares about:
1) Swann is a statue, Wish we had a mobile QB with this O-line
2) O-line is very subpar in pass protection
3) Pass D is notably the same as last year
4) McGowan is fast.
5) We should pound them running the ball
Hopefully VU will have a better 2nd half

Re: Vanderbilt-Hawaii game thread
Very, very discouraging. Thought we’d have secondary issues versus the run and gun. But we really look meh.
Roanoke, not sure we can afford to NOT give 9 yard cushions.
Recognize its game 1 and weird things happen, but I’m afraid it’s beginning to smell like SOV. Will happily eat my words.

Both our lines suspect where I thought there would be more improvement.

Re: Vanderbilt-Hawaii game thread
I think what we should recognize is this:
1) Lynch likes to pocket pass. We came out throwing quick balls and tosses to backs. That just scored 2 quick tds. It worked. Then we went to downfield pocket passing - that leaves a target on our qb and stresses our o-line. Go back to quick routes. Roll out the qb. Throw to backs.
2) on the last drive we did show blitz and drop out of it. And it worked. We need to telegraph less, surprise more.
3) Our kick coverage worries me. But we are ahead because of McGowan’s return - and Wright’s goal line heroics.
4) We get the second half kick. I’m betting we run more. I hope we run creatively - not straight up the middle. Our running game looks good - but its success is better on the edges. We like to run north-south and pocket pass. We need to be smart enough to do what is working. Also, running sets up play action - which was also working, but we abandoned it.

Nice return by Shephard.
Hoping we throw to the backfield here. It’s open every time.
Can’t fault Lynch for the last drive - our best receiver dropped a sure, well-conceived first down.
