Private school HS football in Tennessee this fall is gonna be bananas

Post by BrentVU »

The last two years I've enjoyed watching the private schools in Tennessee in Division II-AA, as Vandy has reaped a number of recruits from LIpscomb Academy and CPA. CPA had been a powerhouse for several years under Ingle Martin, but the last two years has seen Lipscomb Academy become almost unbeatable under Trent Dilfer. With MBA and Brentwood Academy not as dominant as they used to be, it was fun to watch those epic LA-CPA games (last year with Junior Sherrill and London Humphreys going at each other).

But high school football this fall for the Vandy fan is going to be even more bananas. WIth Lipscomb moving up to Division III-AA, this private school division, already tough, becomes easily the toughest HS football division in the state. Lipscomb lost Dilfer to UAB, at a time when they've been moved up to compete against MBA, BA, and Ensworth. LA still has a roster absolutely loaded with college prospects, including two UT commits, but will it be able to compete at this new level? Brentwood Academy features junior QB George MacIntyre (wanted by every school in the free world) throwing to Nate Clifton's little brother Neo. Vanderbilt took three walk-ons this fall from MBA, which of course is Coach Lea's alma mater and is always loaded. Vandy has a commitment already from Ensworth DB Jaren Sensabaugh, and would love to make an impression on D-lineman Ethan Utley. These four schools will be competing weekly against each other and against Chattanooga schools McCallie and (defending state champion) Baylor... both of which have a QB committed to VU (Jeremy St-Hilaire and Whit Muschamp, respectively). St-Hilaire airs it out to WR/S Carson Lawrence, a 2025 VU commit. Baylor's Amari Jefferson committed today to Alabama. Just about everywhere you turn in this division, there are interesting games and interesting prospects for the Vandy fan to watch.

Oh yeah, the latest development... about a week ago Lipscomb learned a junior QB phenom was transferring in, Deuce Knight from Mississippi... I think he's rated the No. 5 QB in the nation by some service (George MacIntyre is No. 2)... Vandy jumped into the Deuce Knight sweepstakes today by extending him an offer. So there's another one for you... as if Lipscomb needed more talent.
