Big transfer pickup #2: IF Jayden Davis from Samford

Post by DoreRayMe »

Will come in as a Sophomore. Set Samford record for consecutive games hitting streak. Total package. Very nice addition.

This looks like a very solid pick-up.

There was a lot of talk that RJ might move to the outfield. I’m guessing this confirms it? But we’ll see.

This transfer had a verrry lengthy hitting streak to close the season. Cookeville native. Positive development.

sounds like a good addition, but we also need to be wary of how his experience will translate against SEC competition .

A hitter is just what we need. He will translate to SEC well or Corbs wouldn't recruit him.

Also some good data here showing transfer hitters to the SEC seem to be greater contributors after leaving the portal than pitchers:

Those were not end-of-season stats. Schreck batting .368?

While we got a SoCon all-conference player, which is great, the Evil Urnge got the SoCon player of the Year, which stinks.

Davis was the #1 rated shortstop in Tennessee coming out of high school, with a tremendous arm. Played 2nd base at Stamford, but could play short, if Corbs wants to make a switch.

That was a draft leverage play. Odds are very high (I'd even say, almost certain) that Galanie never plays for the Vols.

This one is very interesting. Kid wanted to be at Vandy out of high school. No spot available. Went to a solid academic school for a year. Had success and then transferred over. Almost like it was planned...

Definitely a similar vibe to Javier Vaz, only for different reasons. Vaz needed better grades. Davis needed to prove he could play against elite competition. And no, there's nothing illegal about either of these situations with regards to tampering. Corbs would NEVER do that.

Samford's 1st baseman, gold glove winner Stephen Klein just announced he will be transferring for a post-graduate year. He is a native of NOLA and I have no idea if Vandy will be involved but he will likely go SEC.
