Re: Alan Espinal
I’m not picking on Bulger - who does a creditable job.
But I do like the way Espinal frames and blocks pitches.
Espinal does need to work on hitting offspeed pitches. He can hammer a fastball.
It is never bad to have two play-ready catchers.

Re: Alan Espinal
I wish we had more quality bullpen depth. I'm afraid it will be our undoing in Hoover and/or Omaha.

We have enough pitching to win a regional at home plus a super. But Hoover or Omaha? Not.
Too many games. Too many innings.

Re: Alan Espinal
Hoover is unimportant and at Omaha, games are every other day until the championship series. Relief has enough time to recover. Pitching problems are usually nerves.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 4:19 pmOr Tuscaloosa.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 12:48 pm

Vandy's problem is that too many are swinging for home runs when they don't have the power to consistently hit home runs in a stadium like Bama's. When you see a lot of high flies and infield choppers, these are the results of too much launch angle. Lower the launch angle and get line drives that makes the defense have to make plays.
The Bama field dimensions are:
Foul lines: 320 feet
Power alleys: 360 feet
Center field: 390 feet
Here are Hawkins:
Foul lines: 335 feet
Power alleys: 375 feet
Center field: 400 feet
