You beat me to it.
Being fired "for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of university employees."

While not stating this has anything to do with the gambling scandal that broke last weekend, the WSFA story I am reading highly implies it does.

Hope this shakes up the team and keeps them from concentrating for the next three days.

It sounds like this may be related to the suspicious betting activity on Alabama's games with LSU last week. It could be a major coincidence, but that seems doubtful. They must have something on him to take that kind of swift action.

I'm a proponent of legalized sports betting, but it can be rife with lots of problems. But this type of integrity isn't going to be one though. The monitoring systems are sophisticated and they use big data to understand what a range of a bet for a particular event should be. You can't sneak in a "large" bet in Ohio on an LSU/Bama baseball game. Its like trying to add to your blackjack bet after you hit a blackjack and the dealer is finishing out the dealing of the cards.

You're going to have to be a lot more sophisticated than this to cheat.

I read in an article down here in Montgomery that it was "mentioned" to a relative in Ohio by "someone" within the baseball program about an hour before the announcement the starter was being scratched. Before the hour was up, a large "mid-5 figure" bet was placed on LSU. Sounds like he was complaining to a family member or close friend about losing a pitcher and the person told took advantage of the "current" odds.

Reading about a rumored $150,000 bet. Supposedly, not related to any player..... As a side question to those of you who place legal bets, (which i do sometimes but usually for about $10 - $25, does the book have any way not to pay on the bet?

One of those Twitter replies by someone who claims to know more about the case said the payoff was $8k - $10k. If so, the bet would have been $20k-$25k on a game that normally has very little action.

Another referenced the video evidence, suggesting the cameras at the betting site picked up Bohannon on a FaceTime with the bettor. Did Bohannon say, “That looks like you’re at an OTB site. Don’t be putting any money on this game; the Tide may not win.”

And Andrew A on the broadcast said Bohannon played for Vanderbilt briefly in his youth. Anyone know about that?

Yep…1994! Transferred to Ga Tech in ‘95, then, transferred to Berry College.

Oh yeah, the book would definitely void action on that bet. No way they're paying it.

If true, that is an absurdly dumb thing to do. $25K bet on any baseball game, including the Major Leagues, is going to cause eyebrows to raise. Incredibly, incredibly stupid by all who were involved. And if Bohannon said that, he deserves to be dumped out on his head. That kind of thing is definitely specifically briefed to coaches and players alike and explicitly prohibited.
