Bigs

Post by roanoke »

We need to go get Grant Nelson. Now.

Let Robbins host him.

We need a real big - and then we can build off last year.

I imagine he'll be in very high demand, but his addition would immediately elevate our chances for making the tournament. No brainer.

The competition will be fierce and have to think NIL bucks will be a factor. Would be ecstatic to see him here and bet he could plug in very well to a team that used a similar type player so effectively. CJS needs to camp out on his porch.

"The big knock on Nelson’s game is his three-point shooting, as the 6-foot-11 forward shot just 26.9% from three last season."

So don't shoot more than one 3-pointer. Worked for QMB.

Why someone would want to leave San Luis Obispo is beyond me. One of the great places on this planet.

CJS could do better. Onyema looks better on paper than Koroma. Nelson looks way better than Koroma as well. Not that we don't need help, but CJS has proven he can get better players than Koroma and it feels a bit like he would be settling here.

Well, if he already graduated from Cal Poly, his academics should be no problem.

Let’s sign both. At this point we need couple big bodies and hopefully one of the two will turn out to be solid.

That one. Sign that one. That interest list - if accurate - says all we need to know.

EDIT: Also went 5-15 from deep in the season. Small sample size, but that’s not a terrible thing. Don’t want a 7-footer launching all his shots from outside. Just enough to keep teams honest. Also went 98-154 on FTA. Could do much worse than 63.6% at the line for a guy with that size and upside potential.

Just because somebody tweeted that there is interest from VU doesn't make it a confirmable offer.

Well Onyema has already taken an official visit to Vanderbilt and has been offered.

Bandaogo was WAC Defensive Player of the Year. He scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in 2-pt overtime loss to UAB in NIT Semis.

Still developing, ala Ezeli and Perdue, his playing time went from 2 minutes per game (7 games) to 12 mpg then 29.4 mph in his third season. Should have two remaining.

Shot 2-pointers at 61.6% and had more blocked shots than fouls per game.

Not saying Vanderbilt is interested or will get him, but certainly looks like a good GET.

Bandaogo is VERY good - but I believe his old Utah Valley coach switched teams.

Cal might be a leader. With that said - I’d love to get him. Stack could help him.

Just so everyone knows, ESPN has Bandaogo listed as the 14th-best player in the portal--including all the ones who've already committed. Only three of those ahead of him are uncommitted as of yet: Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson (#1), Toledo point guard RayJ Dennis (#10), and Penn wing Jordan Dingle (#11). And as a point of comparison, Tyrin Lawrence is #52. Here's what they had to say about Aziz:
14. Aziz Bandaogo, 7-0, C, Soph., Utah Valley Wolverines
After two seasons at Akron, Bandaogo transferred to Utah Valley and had his breakout campaign. He was the Defensive Player of the Year in the WAC and earned first-team all-league honors, averaging 11.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.
He's also just a sophomore, so wherever he transfers he'll have potentially two years of eligibility left. I'd say it's a fairly big deal that we're on his list.
