A Beat Down in Progress

Post by Seadog73 »

UGA 38 - TCU 7 at the half. And UGA receives the 2nd half kickoff.

This is what happens when you get a team that would have gone 6-6 in the SEC in the championship game. TCU would have lost to Bama and UT and probably LSU, Ole Miss and USC. TCU would have lost to Michigan about 9 times out of 10, with the one coming in a game in which they got a three TD swing off turnovers (two pick sixes and a goal line fumble).

Watched the game on the channel with the overhead camera and no announcers. Have done so when it's been offered in past games. I find the shots to be illuminating regarding the plays and the nitty gritty on the field much more so than the camera angles in the typical broadcast game. Wondering if other find it the same. And if so, why--even if we have to have the incessantly blathering announcers--they don't feature these shots more often in games.

When it goes to a 12 team playoff I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bigger beat down when a 3 loss 11 or 12 seed ekes out a fluke win in the opening round only to get annihilated by a 1 or 2 seed - coming off a bye- in the second round.

Upsets in college basketball are more common than football. There will be fewer in the 12 team playoff than in the NCAA basketball tournament. I don't think the 12 team format will be more interesting than the current 4 team deal.
