Vanderbilt at Tennessee, 2-13-22, 11:00
SEC Network
I have a bad feeling. There are a couple of reasons. First, after struggling for a couple of weeks, UT hammered Missouri Thursday night. They won by 14, but that's misleading. They were up 25 after three quarters.
Mostly, though, I fear we are reaching a stage of mental fatigue. Heck, I'm starting to feel some mental fatigue. We are at such a disadvantage in terms of size and talent that we have to perform with an effort level that is very hard to maintain over an entire game, much less and entire season. I fear a blowout, but these ladies have surprised me more than once this season.
They showed some real gumption at A&M cutting the deficit to five in the fourth quarter but then fouled a three-point shooter (four-point play), went down and missed shot them gave up another basket. It went from five to 11 in less than a minute. Game over.

One way or the other, the Lady Vols will know they’ve been in a battle.MikeADore wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 10:21 am SEC Network

Ladies visited the WBB Hall of Fame in Knoxville, and Kendal Cheesman got to see her jersey hanging in honor of being the Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida last year.

UT up after 1Q, 15-12. It'd be better to be ahead, but a respectable first quarter.

Tennessee sets moving screens under the basket seemingly every time they have a fast break opportunity and the refs are oblivious to it. Our players can’t get there to help because they’re being basically blocked by Tennessee players who are moving.

Sigh. That predictably went downhill in the second half, but I've gotta hand it to our players, who never seem to give up.

agree Whit; these kids never quit & am proud to cheer for them; our time will come. Cold shooting, height disadvantage, little bit of homer calls.

Looked like they finally called one and then they did it again after that.Dickeys Nightmare wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 12:23 pm Tennessee sets moving screens under the basket seemingly every time they have a fast break opportunity and the refs are oblivious to it. It was great to see Cheesman get some meaningful minutes during this game. I hope we get to see more of her so we can see if she can help this team, like any player she needs minutes on the floor to figure out the speed of the game but I am hopeful with her size and shooting ability she can give us some good minutes going forward.

Agreed! We rely on 2 players to score and need all the help we can get when we need offense. I noticed they did run a play for Cheesman, but her 3 pointer was a little off the mark. I realize she must be having a difficult time adjusting, but I believe she could be an effective role player.
