Colorado columnist rips on CSU, but doesn't give Vandy much respect

Post by BrentVU »

“I don’t feel sorry for myself because I’m not going to drop my head. There ain’t a coach in this program that’ll drop their head. So it’s my job to make sure we just keep swinging away, because that’s all loser stuff.”

You know what else is loser stuff?

• Racking up 11 penalties for 115 yards in losses. At Canvas Stadium.
• A false start during a made field goal attempt that then leads to a missed field goal.
• Two targeting calls.
• A home defeat to Vanderbilt, the Washington Generals of college football. America’s homecoming guest. A baseball school. A football program that hadn’t won a non-conference road game since September 2017.

Find a win. Somewhere. Anywhere.

CSU came out Saturday night firing on all three cylinders. Opening drive: 75 yards traveled on five plays in just 2:03. Rams quarterback Todd Centeio nailed his first three throws. Zip. Zip. Zip. Six-nil. ‘Dores on the ropes.

Vandy — Vandy! — outscored CSU 24-14 the rest of the way.

Well, can't argue too much with what he said, although I admit I had to look up the Washington Generals, which is not exactly an apt comparison but hey, I get satire.

Hoping that, over time, his description will have to change.

Looked to me like both the teams have the same problem - they have problems in the "headspace" department. Bone head penalties, missed assignments, throwing to the covered guy when someone else is wide open, periods of time where they lack focus and fire...

Yes, CSU melted down and shot themselves in the feet several times after a really good start.
But CSU's really good start was much facilitated by Vanderbilt starting the game in melt down / foot shooting mode.
CSU fans/media really don't have any call to say they lost to an inferior team. Both teams have some talent at some positions, some weak positions, and both teams' biggest problem is what is happening in the players' heads.

A Colorado State beat writer referring to another football team as the Washington Generals of college football demonstrates the effects of legalized marijuana in the state.

"...the Washington Generals of college football..." got a belly laugh out of me. Frankly shows what the players and staff are up against. Hope to see a few more homer columns like this, this year.

Which of our road games are the opponents’ Homecoming games this season?

Can't really hate on that article. Imagine the Tennessean had Vandy went on to get blown out in that game - Multiple above the fold articles about the ineptness of the struggling program. Instead, the win gives them Page 2 - 4 material to write.

For those looking, Clark provided the explanation in his press conference. Superior conditioning allowed Vandy to seize momentum. Adazio might ought to think about that.

The inverse of this article would have been in the Tennessean (and probably the Hustler) if we had lost, so we can't complain. Washington Generals -- good line.

like many of us, after a 5 play TD drive, and 300+ yards of offense in the first half after last week's loss...I'm sure everyone figured the outcome was solidified.

I'm sure glad we made adjustments on both sides of the ball and proved everyone wrong, including me.
