Interesting that Cam Johnson is returning both punts and kicks.

Biggest surprises to me:
1. Only 1 of the OL opt-outs is starting (Clemens @ LG)
2. Michael Warden is the starting center (and Dawkins is listed as backup at RG)
3. Will Sheppard is starting over Abdur-Rahman
4. Ethan Barr is starting over Afemui
5. Owusu and Wright are on equal footing as a starter @ LB
6. Jaylen Mahoney is starting over Allan George
7. Pierson Cooke is kicking off over Bulovas

None of these are huge surprises, but they are interesting.

Ready to get rolling Saturday night!!

Biggest surprise for me is that Jaylen Mahoney and Gabe Jeudy-Lally beat out the Andalusia cousins at the two corner positions.

Didn't Malik Langham play more DE previously? It's a little surprising to me that he's starting at DT over Wilkins Jr.

With Derek Green still coming back from knee surgery - they may have moved him inside since he's so big.

The Michael Warden story seems pretty cool: a walk-on @ Vandy, now starts @ center as a senior and was also named a member of the Leadership Council.

I was about to post nearly all of these same observations, so I'll just add a few thoughts to yours!
alabamacommodore wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 12:40 pm Biggest surprises to me:
1. Only 1 of the OL opt-outs is starting (Clemens @ LG) Agree - and to add, Jonathan Stewart is 3rd string.
2. Michael Warden is the starting center (and Dawkins is listed as backup at RG) This was scooped a few days ago by the Tennessean beat writer, but it's still a surprise given how many big bodies we have on this roster. The 2 deep desn't include a single freshman on the o-line and we actually signed a four more guys
3. Will Sheppard is starting over Abdur-Rahman - this is exciting. We all love Rahman but if Sheppard is that good, holy crap.
4. Ethan Barr is starting over Afemui
5. Owusu and Wright are on equal footing as a starter @ LB I like Owusu in this role. He takes no $h!t on the field.
6. Jaylen Mahoney is starting over Allan George
7. Pierson Cooke is kicking off over Bulovas

Additional:
Senior Alston Orji is no where on the depth chart. Bummer.
Not a single freshman DB is on the depth chart. Given how much attrition we suffered, that surprises me.

I was pretty surprised that Alston Orji isn't on the depth chart. Is there an injury issue? Or did he just get beat out?

McAllister's position is the "Star" (standup rush end who can double as an OLB); Owusu's/Wright's is the "Anchor" (hybrid LB/Safety/Nickel).

Would Owusu be able to play in the safety/nickel part of that position? Would be a really big S/DB.

I think that's the plan. Owusu is supposedly athletic enough to do just that.
