William Faulkner turned down an invitation to attend a Nobel Laureate's breakfast at the White House. "That's too far to go just to eat breakfast," he explained.

Corbs explains that it had nothing to do with politics:

This thing was an absolutely non-event, yet some over zealous reporter wanted to start an incident and make everyone pick sides. I hate this type of reporting. The bad part is that despite the follow up (in the Tennessean), the immediate response by former players, and the general consensus that Corbin is a first rate guy who puts patriotism front and center, the WaPo won't follow up here and the people who read the original article have already taken to their sad corner of social media to express outrage of one sort or another.

I'm glad Corbin didn't take the team.
Why subject your players to Trump?
Whatever excuse he needs to come up with, I support Corbs on this.
In a couple of years, Corbs can take a team up there to visit a real president.

Faulkner said referring to the Kennedys - he had been brought up not to eat with people he didn't know or something to that effect. You don't have to accept every invitation, especially people who are using your name to enhance their own, even if they are President.

Biltmore, hate to tell ya, but the same person will be in the White House in a couple of years

The 2014 CWS Champions didn't get an invite to visit the White House. Ever wonder who the president was then?

Too bad this thread became so political. But no surprise. My only comment is that Elizabeth Warren probably doesn't like sports, would never invite Vanderbilt, as we are too elitist, and would NEVER invite a team nicknamed Commodores. If that nickname doesn't smack of the godawful top 1%, I don't know what does.

Are you actually referring to the same person who was a law professor at two Ivy League schools?geeznotagain wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:49 pmToo bad this thread became so political. But no surprise. I'm sorry this thread took such a hard turn to naive-town.geeznotagain wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:49 pmToo bad this thread became so political. But no surprise. My gawd, man. You don't think this thread was political?
Do you seriously think that there was no political element to Corbin's calculation to not bring the team to the Whitehouse? That he just couldn't be bothered to interrupt their thanksgiving's of doing nothing, to go to the whitehouse for an historic chance of a lifetime?
I'm sorry - but that's not a viable argument. It's a diplomatic argument, sure. Because I don't expect Corbs to throw his team (or himself) under the bus driven by a petty man who ruins careers for his own sport.
Corbs and Vandy baseball are not the first team to decline invitations to give that jackass a photo opp.
What makes you so sure that Liz Warren would eschew a Vandy team?
Good liberal school... shaking hands with a powerful liberal stateswoman.

I think some folks can identify a political element in their daily bowel movement if they are predisposed to do so.

Yes, it's so strange to interpret a story involving the president of the United States as "political" in some way.geeznotagain wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 8:46 pm

In any event, I don't find it hard to imagine that it's hard to scrape together a critical mass of 18-22 year old kids to get excited about meeting some sundowning xenophobic old fascist. I probably wouldn't be enthused about it myself.

This thread, however, is clearly about the possible convergence of Vandy baseball and politics.
It is not about one's hypothetical ability to divine political messages from the metaphorical tea leaves of one's scat.
If that's a topic that interests you, perhaps you should request a separate board for that.
Or simply refrain from hijacking/sniping at a perfectly legit discussion about the actual motives for our baseball coach to decline a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the whitehouse.

Thank you. Biltmore needs to take his political trash and keep it to himself. Oh, excuse me, he's probably liberal so he's got to vomit it to the whole world non-stop. So sick of liberals and their hate, so I hope Trump is re-elected.

Read this thread (including the linked articles). Then read it again.dallasdore wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 12:23 pmThank you. Biltmore needs to take his political trash and keep it to himself. This is a thread about the possible political implications of Vanderbilt baseball team declining a WH visit: a discussion with unavoidable political implications.
If this discussion is too hot for you to handle, I believe Geez has a pile of crap you two can play with.
Sounds like a worthy pastime for a pair of wayward conservatives.
After all, doesn't every discussion about Trump feel like you're just searching for meaning inside a pile of shit?
