Fun time at the Hawk today

Post by VandyManners »

Bradfield scales the wall to rob a Home Run was the play of the day.

Fun to watch a little fall ball.

Looks like we were 2-0-1 in a set up that had 3 innings, 3 innings, and 4 innings, winning 1 and 3 and the middle going 0-0. Didn't look like we pitched any of our expected top guys.

Story didn't mention it, but Carter Holton did pitch 3 innings as well. Didn't have his best stuff (4 H, 3 R (1 ER), 1 HBP, 2 BB, 2 K) but will be fine.

The pitcher was Greysen Carter, a freshman. Yes it can be confusing with all the Carter's, and then throw in Colton Regen who was the other pitcher not mentioned in the story.

DAMNIT. Thanks, Haptown, for the correction. I'm an idiot.

I'm hoping we get a fair amount of round-trippers from somewhere (I didn't see LaNeve's name in the recap). The returning HR leaders from 2022 stats are Bradfield (8), Noland (6), Bulger (5), Hewett (4). LaNeve hit 2 home runs in 34 AB in 2022, but his 2021 numbers were a little better: 6 HR in 84 AB.

As for other offense, you've got Enrique manufacturing a run (bunt single, SB, SB, score on Sac Fly); Hewett and McKenzie came on strong late last season; solid returnees Noland, Bulger, Diaz; promising freshmen (RJ Austin may be the best; and ... the Grad Transfer from Duke -- RJ Schreck.

Schreck had a good year in 2022 (.284 avg. / .401 OBP / 8 HR / 8 SB in 47 starts).
If Schreck can return to his 2021 form, he could be our offensive star!
.337 avg. / .435 OBP / 18 HR / 11 SB in 54 starts
