Baseball Batting Gloves

Post by Nashmann »

Why does almost every batter continually readjust the straps between pitches even if they didn't swing? I see very little purpose. It has the college batters doing the same thing copying the majors.

I would imagine it is mostly habit. Remember when Swanson used to go through a whole procedure his freshman and sophomore seasons, but when the put in the timer he had to cut it back to just gloves and not after every pitch. His was just his procedure.

For some, it may be a habit but almost EVERY player does it.....trying to be cool I guess. Like I said even college players do it now that the pros do...

More time to contemplate the next pitch?

I believe that Bryan Reynolds is the Delay of Game King. He would step out of the box after nearly every pitch to rewrap his batting gloves.

If the umps let you get away with it, keep it up. Let the pitcher stew a bit. Still, I see no evidence that the gloves require rewrapping.

How many pitches per game? 250+? At 5 seconds per wrap, that’s over 20 minutes.

Part of their routine. I remember one of the players years ago stating the getting a routine was something Corbs promoted.

I think it is a nervous habit. Pitchers grab the resin bag, fiddle with their glove, their hat, etc. One player starts the behavior and others follow, maybe subconsciously.

Jack Bulger doesn't wear batting gloves. He never has this problem. Steps in and is ready.

Bulger should “air wrap” invisible batting gloves the first time up to confuse the opposing pitcher … and the announcers.
