I suspect Jones, Lesko & Barreria were never gonna make it to campus. Schultz, on the other hand, hurts at #26.Vandy187187 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 8:46 pm We are getting slaughtered, 4 recruit picks already in the first round

From ESPN re Schultz:
It could take an overslot bonus to buy him out of Vanderbilt.
And the White Sox have only $6.3MM in total draft pool.
Always hopeful....

Always hopeful; rarely optimistic.

At 6 '7" he will fit right into the Yankee outfield.

No reason to be surprised.

MLB Draft continues on mlb.com ...
... and the mlb network / app.
The Draft Tracker is a good way to keep up if you don't want to watch every minute:
https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/2022/all/team/
ESPN cut out after Round 1 + 2 Compensation picks.
Throughout tonight, the draft will continue with Competitive Balance Round A (seven picks), Round 2 and Competitive Balance Round B (eight picks) and six second-round compensation picks.
I won't be checking in frequently at this point. G'night all.

10 SEC recruits were picked. 6 from Vandy. You can't rebuild if you can't get your recruits to campus. Between the portal and the draft we got gutted.

Who did I miss? Jones, Lesko, Schultz, Barriera, and Stewart.Vandy187187 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 9:53 pm 10 SEC recruits were picked. 6 from Vandy. You can't rebuild if you can't get your recruits to campus. Between the portal and the draft we got gutted.

I don’t know what you do if you’re Corbs. If you get these kids to commit knowing there’s a good chance they’ll get drafted high and signing, you’ve just screwed the program. He’s been reasonably good at getting some players to forego the pros and play at Vandy, but it looks like those days are over. He’s going to have figure out a different method because what happened tonight is a gamechanger in the worst way for the baseball program.

So who is the 6th recruit. I listed 5 I see, but 187187 says there are six.DS2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 10:36 pm I don’t know what you do if you’re Corbs. Re: MLB Draft chit-chat
Let's see how this all plays out, but--while happy for the kids--could indeed be a big bummer for Vandyboys... I saw that LSU also got hit pretty hard in this early picks.
Re: MLB Draft chit-chat
Looks like just 5 kids for us.

Stewart hurts as there was talk he'd be drafted later. And we need his bat. As far as the others we always seem to lose kids to the draft. Most of those we sort of knew weren't coming. Thats the risk recruiting the elite players. Maybe once in a while you get some to attend school but more likely than not most go pro. Seems like the ideal scenario is trying to load up on guys rated 50-150 and then swing for a couple top guys you know will likely leave. This year's class is a bit top and bottom heavy and a little more lean in that sweet spot range. Luckily Dut said he is coming.

Re: MLB Draft chit-chat
I don't think Corbin needs to change the way he recruits. He is selling something he believes in and history indicates no program in the last ten years has been more successful.
If Corbin passes on recruiting the top shelf talent there are no Rocker's or Leiter's or dozen other young men that choose Vanderbilt over the MLB as high school stars.
When the dust settles Vanderbilt will lose five or six top recruits and still have a top five class in the country.
Go Dores.

Re: MLB Draft chit-chat
No expert, but I would certainly be surprised if it didn't.
One thing is certain, if both stay healthy, in about 5 years the Rangers will have a World Series strength pitching staff.
