“Sing, ye immortal muse, of the gridiron classic which was staged on October 27, 1921. It was the crowning achievement of the season, an unbelievable 7-7 tie with Georgia. This battle was to Vanderbilt supporters what Yorktown was to the revolutionary soldiers. Everything was against the Commodores. Georgia had weight, speed, and enviable record, the greatest line in the South. Vanderbilt had only psychological pressure. Dudley Field was overflowing. It was the game of the South."

That's some serious sports writing! I do, however, question the historical accuracy of comparing the Vanderbilt team to the American revolutionary soldier at Yorktown. While the Georgia gridders seemed to have every advantage on 10/27/21, likewise the American Continental Army with its French army & navy allies held the huge advantage over the besieged, abandoned and outnumbered British army under Gen Cornwallis. Otherwise, those descriptions of the Georgia and Michigan ties are really fun to read.
