Approaching the Peak

Post by charlestonalum »

I have marveled at the Vandyboys ability to peak late season and going into the tournaments. Recent years in the CWS are examples.
It has become a Corbin trademark lately. This team may, just may be showing this ability to peak late. The final 2 series are a bit like the super regionals. That is we have quality opponents in a series (although each is a full 3 games.)
Now is the time to put everything together and start the final climb toward the peak. A 3-3 split or 4-2 recrd would say we are getting there.
Here's hoping...

I still say once school is out and the players can focus on baseball, they always seem to get much better. Only one set of pressure now.

That could explain it - school is out now!

Probably plays a role.

Also Corbs is famous for early season lineup and pitching moves that are designed to pay off late in the season, even if it costs him some wins along the way. Definitely a guy who takes the long view, willing to pay short term cost for long term payoff.
It would be hard to get away with this in football or basketball.

We are a step closer to that peak, but still a major climb ahead, and I suspect last night's extra inning win has really made the Arkansas fans and players a bit testy. Still focus on each pitch, each play and see if we can take a another big step upward. Last night was truly a major win: so proud of the team and coaches.

FWIW, VU is up to #3 in Warren Nolan’s RPI after the Friday night win at Arky. They appear to be putting the pieces together at the right time. Back-to-back gritty wins this week.

And yet we still don't have a 3rd starting pitcher that we have a great deal of confidence in. That may not be doable with the pieces he has to work with.

VandyBoys are definitely peaking at the right time! Good weekend. A good showing at home next weekend coupled with a few wins in Hoover should get them a host spot for at least the CWS regional round.

For as negative as conference play has felt, kind of crazy that we have won more conference series than we've lost. 5-4 as it stands now.

A few weeks ago there was a LOT of complaining about our coaching staff and the team. There is a lot of baseball left, but they're proving AGAIN that they probably know what the heck they're doing on this baseball stuff.
