Batting avg
We have starters hitting .214, .213 and .205. The bottom 3 in the lineup tonight has 7 Ks in 9 ABs as I write this. If these guys at the bottom don’t start hitting, we won’t even make it out of a regional. I understand we have a great defensive SS and 2b but can we afford the automatic outs?

Yep, hitting is fine except when we have players in scoring position. Has to be in the head at least partially. Time for a sports psychologist?

Hitting is not fine. We have 2 guys(DK and SJ) that are propping up the whole teams average. EB and JB are pulling their weight as well but the remainder of the order has been bad. How can hitting be fine when the bottom third of the lineup averages about .220.charlestonalum wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 7:51 pm Yep, hitting is fine except when we have players in scoring position. Re: Batting avg
I must question you statement regarding the bottom third of the lineup hitting .220. Young’s problem has been well established, but if we have Hewitt (.393) in the lineup and Vaz (.270), your .220 doesn’t equate, as Young is the only hitter below that mark. I guess you are including Vastine, who is in the lineup only as an injury replacement and couldn’t hit most grandmothers. I don’t have a problem with the bottom of our lineup when we are healthy. Our bottom 3 is usually Kolwyck (.269) Diaz (.239) and Young….these 3 are averaging in the .240s as a group, which is not great, but is not .220. Young and Diaz are in the lineup due to being the best at their positions and Diaz has had some clutch hits.blackgold61 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 5:14 pmHitting is not fine. Re: Batting avg
I did a bit of poking around the SEC. #9 Carter Young has a BA of .204 ..... that is the lowest BA of any starting infielder in the SEC. His defensive number is ordinary .... there are a doz other SS's in the SEC with equal or better defensive skills. Young has led V-bilt in K's in each of the last 2 seasons and was in the top 2 in K's in the entire SEC 2021. It is impossible to believe Coach Corbin has been unable to recruit a SS in 2021 or 2022 with more upside than #9.
