It’s hard to wrap my brain around the idea of not signing him. I understand they wind up with a compensation pick next year, but the $6mil they would save on him they can’t even use elsewhere. Even if he needs TJ that might set him back one year? There have even been supplemental exams that say it’s very minor and mostly inflammation. Supposedly, they dropped the offer to around $4mil. I just don’t see how a major league team thinks the extra $2mil isn’t worth it for a pitcher of Kumar's talent level. We will see what happens, but if he comes back to Vandy and takes advantage of NIL he still stands to make a good chunk of money.
