Re: Kumar and the Mets
Bring him back to West End and put him on a strict pitch count. Maybe try him as a closer just for kicks in a few midweek games. This would be like Stack getting Pippen back.

Or if he needs surgery, get it done and maybe he is ready to pitch by baseball season (or before the end of the season).

Re: Kumar and the Mets
I hope for the best for Kumar. Fortunately for him and his family, they are not in desperate need that the contract with the Mets work out.Doreforlife wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 2:39 pm https://fansided.com/2021/07/27/new-yor ... -deadline/
Looks like Kumar might not sign.

Re: Kumar and the Mets
It would be pretty sweet to have him back in black and gold.
I’d bet they will figure something out, though.

Re: Kumar and the Mets
Auric, You may be right. But, the Mets may also try to give his signing bonus a haircut. Reduce it by $1million or $2million.
I believe the deadline for him to sign is this coming Sunday (or whenever), after which he goes back into the pool for next year (I think). This might result in a game of chicken, right up to the deadline. Who blinks first?

Re: Kumar and the Mets
I certainly hope it all works out for Kumar and for the Mets and that the deal gets done. I cannot imagine Kumar coming back to Vandy to compete with the baseball team next year under any circumstances. If he doesn't sign, I imagine he'll work with personal trainers and pitching coaches to focus solely on the '22 draft. He's done his Vanderbilt "thing" and is a Vandy Boy for life - for which I will always be greatful. I would imagine his camp believes it is time to move on. (Of course, we all have opinions!) I also imagine he'll be a great ambassador for Vanderbilt baseball throughout his life.

His offer/contract agreement has been pulled from the draft tracker.

Re: Mets not reaping benefits of the draft
They traded former Vanderbilt commit and MLB first-round draft choice Pete Crow-Armstrong to rent Javy Baez for the rest of the season. The deal paid off Saturday night. Let's see how far it helps the Mets in the 2021 postseason.

Re: Mets not reaping benefits of the draft
The Mets are .500 right now meaning they would not even sniff a wildcard.
Team they are behind for a wildcard:
Dodgers
Padres
Reds
Cardinals
Phillies
Translation: The Mets will have no 2021 postseason
