Draft tracker signings show most well below slot value

Post by commadore »

This shows all who have signed so far. I'd say 80% were under (and many WELL under) The slot value. Four of the top 10 have signed and all save Rocker are significantly under slot value.

I wonder how far Leiter would go to threaten to return to Vandy to get his money. Not that I think there’s really any chance he won’t sign.

I was really surprised how far below slot Davis accepted to sign.

It will get done with Leiter. The Rangers need him a lot.

I can't imagine Leiter settling for much less than slot, which is $7.79 Million. As much as I would love to have him back, there is no chance that would happen. He really can't boost his signing bonus value, and he could be in the Majors in 2022. I saw that Baez signed for considerably over slot ($2.25 Million), so that Vanderbilt brand paid off for him. There is some talk that Lawler is balking at $5.7 Million and may come to Vanderbilt, but I think that must be a bargaining tactic. I don't think I would advise my kid to turn down $5.7 Million to come to Vanderbilt for 3 years.

Leiter signed. ESPN reported that his bonus was over $7.9 million. Slot value was just under $7.8M.

Of those 1st rounders that have signed, 33 of 36:
7 above slot
20 below slot
6 at slot

Looks like most teams saved some money on their first rounders.

Pretty interesting to see the numbers, especially relative to slot, for VU-connected players.
